When is reformation sunday
The Reformation existed to promote the free expression of religion and also decentralizing church institutions. Before the Reformation, the church sold tickets of indulgences from sins for money. This promoted the notion that heaven is for the rich. We love Reformation Day because it stands for the belief that forgiveness is for all and does not require monetary payments.
The Bible was in Latin, a language not understood by the majority of the local people, and the priests gave religious services in Latin. No one understood what the priests said or if it was true. After the Reformation, the Bible was written in the common language of the people, allowing everyone to read and understand it.

Justification, God's declaration that we are not guilty, forgiven of sin, and righteous in His sight comes because through our faith alone the Father imputes, or reckons to our account, the perfect righteousness of Christ 2 Cor. Martin Luther's rediscovery of this truth led to a whole host of other church and societal reforms and much of what we take for granted in the West would have likely been impossible had he never graced the scene.
Luther's translation of the Bible into German put the Word of God in the hands of the people, and today Scripture is available in the vernacular language of many countries, enabling lay people to study it with profit. He reformed the Latin mass by putting the liturgy in the common tongue so that non-scholars could hear and understand the preached word of God and worship the Lord with clarity. Luther lifted the unbiblical ban on marriage for the clergy and by his own teaching and example radically transformed the institution itself.
He recaptured the biblical view of the priesthood of all believers, showing all people that their work had purpose and dignity because in it they can serve their Creator. Today, Luther's legacy lives on in the creeds and confessions of Protestant bodies worldwide. As we consider his importance this Reformation Day, let us equip ourselves to be knowledgeable proclaimers and defenders of biblical truth. May we be eager to preach the Gospel of God to the world and thereby spark a new reformation of church and culture.
Teaching Series. Across Europe, the Roman Catholic Church was engaged in one of the greatest fundraisers in all of history. In short, the church at that time taught that even those bound for heaven had to be cleansed of their earthly sins and this cleansing purging in the afterlife took place in a place called Purgatory.
There were some very nuanced explanations of this practice at the time. And there were other very crass explanations that basically amounted to people paying to be forgiven.
The day before a German Monk named Martin Luther posted a list of 95 Theses — 95 reasons that he objected to this practice of selling indulgences. Along with other writings by Martin Luther, those 95 Reasons went viral.
Luther insisted that we are not forgiven because of anything we do — including the buying of Indulgences or doing enough good work. Instead, we are forgiven because of who God is. We are loved and forgiven because God is full of grace and mercy. His teachings and writings got Martin Luther kicked out of the church. Others agreed with him, and after his death those who agreed with Luther became known as Lutherans and also as Protestants.
October 31st, was a long time ago. Why does it continue to matter and be remembered in our churches today? We all have a family story — how we got to this point in history. Stories about parents and grandparents, about the things that have shaped our families over the years.
Reformation Sunday is a day when we remember and re-tell the family stories of our faith.
