Where is rhodes in sydney
Trolleys are the real problem from lazy people and the odd mattress dumped by a lazy student. And no pub, however Concord hotel is great and walking distance. Rhodes station could do with an upgrade to handle peak times but I walk to Concord west station to avoid that crowd. People should come visit and check it out. It's unlike older Sydney suburbs but that's part of the appeal. I have been living in Rhodes for over a year now and am enjoying it more than I expected. Considering the density of the area is surprisingly quiet, especially on weekends.
Nice walking tracks which are safe at any time, day or night. It is always nice to go for a run, walk or bike ride along the foreshore and on to Homebush and the Olympic site. Very convenient to the city both by rail and road. Proximity to local shopping centre also very convenient. Parking is becoming less of an issue as construction work slows down construction workers taking parking during the week. Many options for eating out with new restaurants in the recently opened town centre.
Close to Concord, Burwood and Leichardt for even more restaurant options. Council needs to do more in regards to preserving parks and open areas from further construction.
Council also needs to do more in regards to furniture dumping. This can be an issue due to many international students living in the area who simply dump their furniture on the street when they leave.
Am surprised by the property prices and rents being achieved but suppose it is a matter of supply and demand. Rhodes has great potential if Council act responsibly and in the interests of the residents.
I doubt that any Council have the resources to actively seek out issues in their areas, or else there would so much money wasted on staff driving aimlessly around their respective local government areas trying to find something wrong with the place.
If they did that - they would be called out for being wasteful and reckless toward the environment. How are they meant to know furniture dumping is an issue in Rhodes? It is up to community members to identify these issues to Council so that they can then take appropriate actions to rectify it. Rhodes has great potential if community members act responsibly and highlight issues to Council in the interests of their residents.
I moved into Rhodes in Oct , and Rhodes is a lot different now than it was 2 years ago. There are new asian supermarkets and restaurants asian and western opened recently and i can see there will be more shops opening soon. These definitely makes Rhodes a more liveable city.
I always see Rhodes as the centre of Sydney, so if you are young and likely to switch jobs every couple of years, Rhodes is the way to go because it's relatively easy to travel to almost anyway in Sydney than those living in the far east or north.
I feel quite safe walking in Rhodes because most people here are young people who love pets or retirees. The pavement by the waterfront is complete now, so you can walk a lot further than 2 years ago. Parking during the day can be tricky, but if you are a local, then you know where to look.
I live in a secure apartment Sienna by the Bay with camera installed, and there is rarely a blind spot that is not within the camera view. There are a few apartments are still getting built but in a couple of years time, Rhodes should be free from the noises coming from the construction, not that i can hear it but some people may. Rhodes' housing value will continue to rise and this may not be good news to people who want to move into Rhodes. As long as we can keep Rhodes a safe place, it remains a great place to live.
I used to work here over 10 years ago. At that time there were no apartments. There was an old paint factory and the site of the old Union Carbide factory. The site at that time required you to wear a hazmat suit to enter that land.
Now people live there and I just can't believe it. The bay is one of the most toxic waterways in Australia. How could apartments and shops be built here?? Nice location but traffic sucks and who knows what will happen to your health! To all idiots who have bought apartments at Rhodes. The area at one stage was so toxic from waste dumped from factories you needed to wind up your car windows from the chemical smells.
Now your units sit on top of what used to be factories and swampland. Rhodes was a cheap dump and no matter how grand you think your crackerboxes by the railway are, those who know it's history think otherwise.
Homebush all the way to Tempe has had toxic sites and remediation has been taken out to make them habitable again. They may never be exactly how they were before but that's ok. No one swims in Sydney Harbour and we arnt playing in the mud are we. Fortunately we have government in place that takes these things seriously without shortcuts like other countries may where corruption can rule.
Australia is good in this way. Over regulated but it's not the worst thing. The 25 year environmental clean up in rhodes, completed in , was the largest in Australias history. But you know best. Keep up the good work. You sound like a lovely person. I won't lie the suburb looks really nice and some of the apartments at least mine was beautiful I was the first tenant but the materials used were so cheap plus the humidity The other problem that I noticed was that a lot of students started to move I'm not against it but I couldn't stand the noise of the constructions during the day and the students at night.
Yes and this could be due to the large number of construction workers who do not care about the area. Arbor is at war with rhodes All Sydney has history. Life goes on. But you know best Arbor. All previous reviews were talking about the new appartments in Rhodes West and I think I am the first reviewer on Rhodes East. Properties in Rhodes East are mainly houses with very few townhouses or very small block of units. You should not live on Concord Rd as it is a main road with hundreds of cars pass through every minutes.
The Blaxland Rd has train noisy and Averill Street is a bit busy too. However, if you live on other streets of Rhodes east side, you will find it is one of the best place in Sydney. Transport is great, most houses are within 3 mins to water front, 10 mins easy walk to the station, plenty buses to take you to north or south suburbs. Almost everyone on my street are owners and we do talk to each other.
Many houses have beautiful front yard garden and the streets are very clean. Internet speed is same as any other areas and there are lots more open spaces and big parks in Rhodes East than most suburbs in Sydney. The parking is also a problem on east side. Each weekday morning, I see many people park their car whole day on our street and then catch the train to the city. However, most houses have double garage and if you have visiters on weekends, they should find street parking easily.
The house prices on east side differs depands on which street you live in. For example, the average house price on Llewelyn St is 5 times more than the average house price on Concord Rd.
The house price is not overpriced at all. A four bedroom near new house in east side is less expensive than two 2-bedroom near new units on the west side, but you save the strate fee and own a big land. Overall, Rhodes East is a very good place to live in and we don't need new development on this side. I have been a residence of Rhodes for 7 years now, I have seen the transformation that Rhodes has gone through and I must say, I couldn't be more happier living in Rhodes than anywhere else in Sydney, I have lived in 3 other suburbs of Sydney before that and Rhodes is by far a winner!
There is no suburb like it! I challenge anyone to find other suburb that has: Waterfront lifestyle, Shopping Centre of it's own, Bus and Train station of it's own, surrounded by 3 Huge parkland, Schools and Childcare centres of it's own, an employment hub of it's own! Rhodes has over Corporate companies and local businesses, centrally located: 20 mins to northern suburbs, 20 mins to Southern suburbs, 20 mins to Western suburbs, 30 mins to Eastern suburbs and soon to be Marina!
Where else?? Yes, the parking in Rhodes shopping centre can be little hard to find sometimes, this is a result of people from other suburbs continuously coming to Rhodes because they love Rhodes lifestyle, the local residents should take a walk there anyway.. The demand from people wanting to live in Rhodes is so high, hence the property value has increased amazingly and developers building high rises to keep up with the demand.
